, thank you for that. >>> today the supreme court will take up a fascinating case involving obama care and whether or not for-profit companies have religious freedom when it comes to providing contraceptives. nbc's tracie potts is live in washington with the latest. tracie, good morning. >> hey, mara. good morning, everyone. several cases with that issue have made their way up to the supreme court, and today, behind closed doors, the justices are going to decide whether they will hear some or all of those cases together. the issue here is the employer mandate, the fact that companies with 50 or more employees have to provide some sort of health insurance plan, and those plans must cover birth control. well, what if there's a religious objection by the owners of the company? do they have to provide that insurance? that is the issue. and the supreme court has to decide whether or not they're going to hear those cases. they also may hear the issue of whether individuals paying premiums who object to birth control have to pay for that insurance. now, if the court decides to take any of the

"outfront," our political director mark preston. i guess the question i had all day was trying to understand this. when you hear about obama care going to the supreme court, you get a flash back and you think the entire law itself is at stake. if the supreme court strikes down obama care's mandate to include contraceptives works that mean obama care overall is dead? >> no. the bill would stand on its own as it is currently written. the big question would be how would the obama care administration deal with it. would we have to see companies who did not want freeway this type of protection for contracept

deadline. back to you. >> kristen welker, thank you so much. let's get more on this big question, is it ready? want to bring in sarah cliff, health policy reporter for "the washington post" who's been living and breathing obama care for the past several months. also, christina bellatoni, political editor at the pbs news hour as well as juliet alprin. sarah, i want to start with you. i think it's important to always point out what we're seeing here and the problems and the headaches with the president, it's been a technical one. it's been a technical problem. so once the technical problems go away, do you feel that the american people will then start to embrace the affordable health care act in a much different way? >> it's hard to know for sure just because, as you mentioned, there have been so many technical problems. it's been very difficult to complete the process of shopping for health insurance through healthcare.gov. what we know is in a few of the states that are running their own markplaces -- there are 14 states setting up exchanges. there's been robust enrollment. calif
